How to upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium to higher editions?

Windows 7 provides an option to upgrade from a lower edition to a higher edition for enhanced features.

Note: Your documents, installed programs, and other files will remain intact during the upgrade. However, we recommend backing up your data to protect against power outages or other issues that might compromise your PC's information.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key, then right-click on the Computer or My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. When the System Properties window opens, click on Get more features with a new edition of Windows 7.
  3. Click on Enter an upgrade key.
  4. Enter the 25-character Windows 7 product key and click the Next button.
  5. On the next screen, accept the licence terms before clicking on I accept.
  6. If you have any programs open, save your work and close them, as your PC will restart at least once during the upgrade process. Click on the Upgrade button.
  7. Once the upgrade is complete, a message will appear: The upgrade was successful, and the computer is now ready for use. You are now running a higher edition of Windows 7; you can click on Close.
